Socializr features discovered

SocializrlogoThe founder of Friendster, Jonathan Abrams is creating a new start-up by the name of Socializr. Although it is currently in private beta mode, some users were able to gain access to an account and create a profile via invitation or by playing with the URL.

Based on looking at Jonathan’s profile, the purpose of the website appears to be a combination of an event management application and the features of Friendster. For example, there is a profile page, a friends page, an address book, an organizations page, and forums.

It also appears that every Socializr user will get an assigned direct URL. After going directly to this URL, your location, homepage, Friendster account, Flickr account, Yelp account, and birthday information will be displayed. Not only that but it will display your photos and profile picture. The mere fact that we were able to get this far into the profile could possibly bring up some security issues as some people may want to create an account with Socializr but not have others be able to access this much information.

The event management application feature also comes in at the direct URL page as well. At Jonathan’s profile, you may notice that there is an “Upcoming public event posted by Jonathan” called “Gen Art’s Fresh Faces in Fashion” [this may disappear after September 16] and if you click on that it gives a description, shows the flyer, plays a song, allows you to blog about the event, configure the event to be added to your Microsoft Outlook, send these events to your phone, add comments, and invite others. On this page is also where you will RSVP and be able to view the guest list.

While this new idea has quite a bit of potential, it is not unique. Evite.com is very similar to this application and has a huge marketshare in free invitation applications.
