Search engine company, Yahoo! recently released Mail Beta and is inviting users to try it out. The new version of Mail Beta is available here. The new Yahoo! Mail is primarily AJAX driven and acts as a desktop client for e-mail.

As you can tell by the above screenshot, the new Yahoo! Mail includes a window pane feature below the header of each e-mail which displays the content and is similar to Windows Live Mail. The new Yahoo! Mail also features drag+drop functionalities, message tabbing, a mail search engine, 1GB of mail space, an integrated calendar, spam reporting features, and a built-in RSS feeder. Another impressive Yahoo! Mail Beta feature is that for users in India, they have the ability to set-up SMS alerts about incoming messages from specified e-mail addresses or all incoming messages. Hopefully, this feature will be introduced to USA soon. Yahoo! Mail is also upgradeable to include 2GB of mail space, an ad-free interface, and a virus protector for an annual fee.
While the AJAX interface is definetely an improvement of Yahoo!’s current mail system, the millions who may have a slower computer may suffer from a longer load-time, but there seems to be a way to opt-out of the new interface.
