iTV, the codename for an Apple project set to be released in the beginning of 2007 has potential for Google technology to be implemented into it. This could be partially the reason why Google CEO Eric Schmidt was able to attain a board position with Apple Computer, Inc.

In the September 26, 2006 issue of Newsweek, Steve Jobs talk last week included the reintroducing of a new iPod line of products and reiterated that movies are available for download on iTunes. Usually Jobs is known for using the lines-”One more thing…” then introduces a new product which G4 TV picked up on and spoofed it The Attack of the Shows.

Instead, last week, Jobs stated, “One last thing” and then showcased the iTV which is a device that promotes the interaction of downloaded movies on your computer to your TV. As of right now, downloading movies are costly at roughly $15 a pop for each movie and $10 for the bad movies that are available on iTunes and Amazon Unbox. Making $20 for unlimited rentals with Blockbuster of Netflix makes more sense + they are delivered to your door.

Where Google comes in for the iTV project is discussed by Newsweek’s Steven Levy. “Is it possible that when iTV ships next year, you may also be able to choose a menu item called Google Video, and then zip through the best of the thousands of user-submitted videos on the search giant’s service? Google’s consumer product chief, Marissa Mayer, tells me that indeed, the two companies are engaged in talks.” Its a good thing that Mountain View and Palo Alto aren’t too far apart for the meetings.

However, this attempt to “create a market” is another reason why Apple has proved itself to be an innovator company once again. Now all Apple needs is for their iPod department to figure out how to retain its market-share in the digital music sector as Zune seems to be coming into the market full force and backed by Bill’s billions.
