Within the last couple of weeks, Google Inc. (Nasdaq: GOOG) released a pinging service, had their Blog hacked into, and had management tell the company that they are releasing products too fast.

Google Blog Search Pinging Service - was recently released to ping Google Blog Search of blog updates. Once these updates are published, other search engines are informed of the change as well. After a ping is sent, Google Blog Search then knows that it needs to check out that blog regularly for updates.

Google Hacked! - Yesterday, a hacker took over the official Google Blog. The hacker wrote an article that announced Google’s Click-to-Call product would be cancelled which was reported to a few press articles before Google bloggers could remove the post. There is a screenshot of the actual post on TechCrunch.

Lastly, Google was Given a Red Light from Management

Google founder, Sergey Brin expressed concern about the quantity of products Google is releasing. Brin decided to lead an initiative called ‘Features, not products’ across Google. Brin stated “It’s worse than that. It’s that I was getting lost in the sheer volume of the products that we were releasing.” Google ordered a red light to projects in development to go back and make sure that they can be integrated into current Google products.

In referring to this change in development, Google CEO, Eric Schmidt reported that previous attitudes of product releases will change. Schmidt stated that the previous attitude was to “just get this stuff built and get it out - don’t worry about the integration.”

Google has acquired and released a lot of products since its 1998 inception and has been labeled as the most innovative web company to date. This new management practice could hinder the imaginations that have built the company to what it is today, but only time will tell what good can come out of it.
