A new social network has launched where you can share experiences with other people that like to “rough it” in the great outdoors.  Get Out Sports, a Boulder, CO company has launched Thoos.com which is a website targeted towards cyclists, joggers, rock-climbers, skiers, hikers, fishermen, paragliders, surfers, etc.

Users can Add New Places in different locations across the world and save places as “goals,” tag these locations, or send these places to family/friends:

I think what makes Thoos so appealing is that this web application appeals to anyone that just wants to leave home and explore a new place to have an adventure, but have a hard time choosing one place.  This solves that problem.  And once you choose a place, Thoos encourages you to upload pictures of your experience so others will benefit.

Thoos ScreenshotHow accurate is Thoos?  Let’s just say that I’ve been to the #5 place listed on Thoos.com which is Flagstaff, AZ with my family and the scenery is absolutely breathtaking.  I would say that the scenery here is the best I have seen in the USA though.  But then again I’ve never been to Colorado or Utah and I definetely thought that Flagstaff was a lot nicer looking than Chattanooga.

On the homepage of Thoos.com, there is a search engine where you can type in cities, states, and/or zip codes to find places that are recommended by other users and can even filter these places by its various sport types.  Also on the homepage, ‘Recent Goals’ added by users and ’News Places and Events’ are displayed.

There are also social network groups that users can join also such as Orange County, California’s 3F Bicycling Club or Decatur, Georgia’s D.C. Express Track Club.  Users can rate groups based on how satisfied they are with the group and on the individual group pages, there is a link to the actual group’s website [if applicable] and contact info for the group.

Get Out Sports Inc. (GOS) was started by Sean and Anne Hudson.  In 2000, the couple also started Camp4, a website devoted to rock climbing enthusiasts.  Then by 2004, the couple launched RunningPlaces.com and by 2005 launched CyclingPlaces.com.  The rest of the executive team bios are [here].
