Zorpia Co. Ltd. has launched a Beta test of Zorpia Music. With the new music feature, artists are starting to post MP3s, videos, and lyrics to their profile pages. Zorpia has partnered with Nettwerk Music Group for this project. Nettwerk Music Group is a private record label in Canada. A band called The Submarines will be one of the first groups on Zorpia and will have remixes placed in their profile which won’t be available anywhere else.
Megan Healy, the Director of Online Marketing for Nettwerk stated “We’re looking forward to integrating Nettwerk’s bands into the Zorpia community and giving them a platform to share their music with a new audience.”
Zorpia Music is definetely a great way for Nettwerk artists to interact with their fans, but I do not know exactly what the difference in concepts are between this idea and MySpace. Nettwerk Music Group simply just has an advantage of having acclaimed artists signed to their label such as Sarah Mclachlan and Avril Lavigne who also have agreed to join Zorpia for the promotion of their new albums. Whereas, MySpace is saturated with amateur artists looking to gain fame.
“When music labels partner with Zorpia, we promote the featured artists with special events on our home page, and throughout the site — driving thousands of new fans to the band’s Zorpia page. Zorpia Music is about more than bands simply signing up for a free homepage,” stated Jeffrey Ng, the CEO of Zorpia Co. Ltd. “Zorpia is signing exclusive partnerships with labels around the world. Several labels in the United States and Australia are already using the site to promote their bands.”
Coming from an artist perspective, John Dragonetti of The Submarines stated, “What’s really appealing to me is the international vibe. Having grown up in Dubai it’s refreshing to see the profiles of folks from the Middle East and Asia. It’ll be cool to reach out beyond the indie rock solar system.”
Zorpia Co. Ltd. was created in 2003 and is based in Hong Kong. Zorpia’s initial growth came from a social network service where users could upload unlimited photos, blog, and customize profiles.
