Yahoo! Wireless Ads Now In Beta

Yahoo! LogoOn October 10, I wrote an article about how Microsoft and Ingenio took Microsoft advertisements mobile and Yahoo! and Google would soon follow the wireless market.  Today Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) is proud to announce that they will now have sponsored searches available on wireless phones.

“To optimize the product for small screens, Yahoo will only display one sponsored link on the results page per search keyword [InternetNews.com].”  If Yahoo! is anything like the Microsoft mobile ads (which I suspect that it may be), then when users from Atlanta that surf the Yahoo! search engine on his/her mobile phone from Atlanta, the sponsored searches would be tailored towards Atlanta-based businesses including restaurants, coffee shops, and companies.

Many people are criticizing Yahoo! for being slow to respond to markets lately, but this definetely this news helps Yahoo! penetrate an industry where there are not many players.  Now that Yahoo! has taken notice to the wireless community, I wonder how Yahoo! will give more to this community.  Perhaps there is a way that Del.icio.us and Flickr can play a stronger role in the wireless market.  For the more high-tech phones, maybe there is a way to integrate Yahoo! Video.  Good luck with that Yahoo! and I will see you at Hack Day next year.
