Google Earth has released the 2006 Google Earth Election Guide version of their software on Monday October 23, 2006. The engineers of Google Earth came up with the idea for those who find it difficult to find a centralized location of election information online the various country-wide political races. The 2006 Google Earth Election Guide digs up information about voter registration locations. Google Earth will also make it easier to find information about the various candidates and the financing around their campaigns.Â
“We’re excited to connect voters across the country to timely and locally relevant information about the upcoming elections and the candidates,” stated John Hanke, the director of Google Earth. “We continue to believe that Google Earth can serve as the ultimate tool for organizing and sharing similar geo-based information.”
The 2006 Google Earth Election Guide includes place marks for the 435 Congressional locations. These clickable flags contain feeds pulled from Google Web, Google Images, and Google News. The campaign information around the financial aspects of candidates are provided by the Federal Election Commission (FEC) and Center for Responsive Politics.
The 2006 Google Earth Election Guide is now available for download in the new Google Earth software available for [download]. Google Earth offering political information seems to be a late addition to major web companies encouraging people to vote on November 7. MySpace and Facebook began this initiative about a month or two ago, but the way that it was implemented into Google Earth is interesting because it makes finding political information geographically a whole lot easier.
