I recently read about Zamzar, a company whose web site is currently in Beta. In about 4 simple steps, Zamzar converts various files types automatically for you.

Step 1: Select the files to convert (up to 100MB in size)
Step 2: Choose the format to convert to
Step 3: Enter your email address to receive converted files
Step 4: Convert

People, it doesn’t get any simpler than this. Zamzar offers a vast array of conversion possibilities between images, documents, music, and video. Here is a complete [listing] of the file types.

Zamzar was launched 2 days ago and was already featured in thebeststuffintheworld.com alongside Nike and Flickr. Zamzar’s mission statement is: “To provide high quality file conversion for as many file formats as possible.” The name, “Zamzar” is based on a character “The Metamorphosis” written by German author, Franz Kafka.

Once you select the file to convert and set it to upload, there is an indicator of how long it will take to convert and email:

The sample I used above is converting a .gif to a .jpg. Between the process of converting the image and having Zamzar email it to me took within one minute. This definetely makes life easier. Especially seeing as how Zamzar allows you to convert documents to .PDFs. This could be extremely useful. I definetely give Zamzar 5/5 stars.
