FreeTheFan.com: Just In Time For The Brackets

After hearing about how Michigan State made it to the NCAA basketball tournament this year again, I decided to look up what websites focus on sports as a niche for social networking. This is how I ran into FreeTheFan.com.

Free The Fan is a small private company with offices in New Jersey and in Denver, Colorado. The site went into Beta about 5 days ago. FreeTheFan.com is a hub for users to upload videos, join groups that represent their teams, predict the Final Four, and read/submit Featured Headlines.

As an incentive, FreeTheFan also launched a contest in which users can win a 50″ plasma TV and also win a webcam through the Webcam-A-Day Giveaway provided by Overstock.com.

Through the website, many users are already uploading video logs with their predictions or simply expressing their school pride. Users can directly upload videos using their webcams as well.

FreeTheFan is directly competing along the likes of CBS’ CSTV and Facebook’s newly revamped NCAA tournament feature. Since FreeTheFan is a niche social network, more users may be compelled to visit this website over others during the tournament season.
