Jimmy Wales Continues Talks With Chinese Officials Over Wikipedia’s Ban

Jimmy Wales plans on resuming talks with high-level Chinese officials to bring about a discussion on the sanction of Wikipedia in China. Wikipedia is banned because Wales refused to censor certain entries there. Tech companies like Google, Yahoo! and Microsoft have all made compromises in order to be available in China.

In the meantime, Baidu.com has been using Wikipedia content contributed by its users as their own. “They do not respect the license at all,” said Florence Nibart-Devouard, the chair of the Board of Trustees at Wikimedia Foundation. “That might be the biggest copyright violation we have. We have others.”

“Since we are blocked in China, Wikipedia exists only on one other Web site there, and it is not ours,” added Florence.
