M T Raghunath and Gokul Nath Babu Manoharan, a couple of software engineers on the Google Blog announced that in celebration of India’s 60 years of Independence, there will be a “formal unwrapping of our gift to Indian users” coming up.  This announcement was made on the official Google Blog.

Google’s social network, Orkut had asked users to rate inspirational Indian leaders, Bollywood movies, and other related polls.  “It was also heartwarming to see the number of discussion threads and polls that argued, debated and shared passionate opinions and thoughts on India’s amazing journey as a nation, to the issues that surround her today,” wrote the Orkut team.

My guess is that it has something to do with the University of Mysore.
