Capital Research & Management, one of Yahoo! biggest shareholders has upped their stake from $4 billion worth of Yahoo! shares to $6 billion. Gordon Crawford is the one who specifically made the decision to increase ownership. In terms of percentages, this means that Capital went from 5.2% ownership to 10.1%.

The regulatory filing did not indicate when Capital Research made the investment.  Capital Research clearly believes that the investment will have a solid payoff.  Will Microsoft acquire Yahoo! for $31 per share or the equivalent of over $45 billion.  We’ll see what happens.  Steve Ballmer is expected to take action in 3 weeks.

Note: Gordon Crawford plays golf with former Yahoo! CEO, Terry Semel.
