No More 3rd Party Live Auctions On eBay
eBay, the online auction company known for connecting auctioneers and buyers is turning off one of their features. Â eBay is bailing on it’s live auction feature. Â This feature allowed 3rd parties to sell items in real-time on the auction web site. Â
I can understand why eBay may want to eliminate this feature.  I’m sure running real-time auctions online can be expensive to host.  But some of the other moves that eBay is making can be questionable.  Read some of the eBay user responses here.
eBay Live Auctions is shutting down on December 31, 2008. Â Live Auctions typically conclude when there are no longer any bids versus eBay’s typical 10-day buying window for auctions. Â Â
LiveAuctioneers, one of the 3rd parties that benefitted from eBay Live Auctions is setting up its own independent shop to sell art and other antiques. Â LiveAuctioneers has about 2.5 million active buyers and usually lists 60,000-100,000 items on eBay with a value of over $2.2 billion.
