Update Facebook Status By Texting FBOOK (32665)

When I logged into Facebook this morning, I noticed this:
Facebook Status Mobile
Facebook now has the ability to update status messages by sending a text message to FBOOK (32665) using your cellphone.

Before the text message feature, if you wanted to update your status message on Facebook, users would have to log into the mobile version of Facebook and then type in the message.

When I attempted to test it out, I realized that I never activated Facebook mobile:

The above message will appear if you do not have your phone activated.  To activate a phone on Facebook, you have to go to www.facebook.com/mobile, enter your phone number hit Activate.  Facebook will text message you a confirmation code and then your phone should be ready to update status messages.

From that point forward, you send a text message to 32665 about what you are doing.  I wrote “Is testing out facebook status texting” and sent it to the number.  Below are the results:
Facebook Screen Shot 2

and then Facebook Mobile sent me back the below text message:
Facebook Screen Shot 3
I doubt I’ll use this feature much since I like surfing the web on my phone more than sending text messages nowadays.  But it is a great feature to add.

If only the instructions made sense…
Facebook says, and most tips similar to this also repeat it, that you can text your status to FBOOK (32665).

The problem arises when one uses the qwerty keyboard to send one’s text. If you then use the to address of FBOOK (rather than the phone keypad)… the message goes into the no-where-land.

So note (expert texters already know this) dial FBOOK with the phone keypad, NOT THE KEYBOARD.

this feature has actually been on facebook for a very long time, i’ve been using it for at least a year or two. not sure why it’s taken facebook so long to bring it to everyones attention, but it may have been around prior to twitters text message tweets,

Well, this facebook activation “thing’ has been automatically activated for months when i subscribe to CELCOM broadband service for my iphone. I was not being informed about this, but just for quit sometime on weekly basis I’ve been receiving this notification messages saying that my facebook account has been renewed & would be expired in a week time.

When I called the celcom customer service & spoke to the lady about this. She told me that she’s unsure how it get activated but the activation was sent from my mobile which is weird for me coz beside me no one else use my mobile and i never activate anything via mobile (I’m pretty sure with that)

So, she request me to send the “STOP FB” messages to 32665 & I would be charged 15 cents to do so.

    Waste! No Words! hmm..

    • Hema says:

I mean, why would i want to activate the Facebook activation when I have an application in my iphone and auto notification from myiphone.!!! CELCOM cheat users ! Hate when corporate company does that!
