Moreover, only about 1/4 of all companies are included in a web-crawl search results (other than a cursory listing on one of the many “yellow-pages-like” sites). Even still, web-crawl searches conducted by b2b buyers yield too many results to be useful: a Yahoo! Search on “business telephone system” lists 625 million search results. How is that useful? Company profiles in Zubican will become even more powerful when companies can customize them and link with other company profiles, showing the depth and quality of their business networks. This editing and linking of company profiles functionality will be going live in Zubican in the next few weeks, along with several other additional features.

This is true. Google is pretty limited in terms of finding out how long a company has existed. If a Widgets Inc. has been around for a longer period of time, has a large number of employees, and generates a good amount of revenue, then I would more likely want to work with them over Gadgets Inc.

This is Matthew Graczyk, Zubican’s CEO. The main difference between Zubican and Google is that Zubican is structured search whereas Google is web-crawl search. For example, in Zubican you can find all the wave soldering machine manufacturers that have been in business 5+ years, have revenues $1+ mil and are within 50 miles of Los Angeles. You can’t do that in Google. Yelp is focused on connecting consumers with retailers whereas Zubican is devoted to connecting b2b buyers with b2b sellers. To serve b2b users, you need to provide more detailed company info (such as very granular industry classifications) and enable buyers to understand the business relationships sellers have (which is why we will soon be going live soon with the ability to link company profiles). There is a lot more detail that I could go into, but please feel free to contact me directly with any questions or ideas for how we can improve at mattg@zubican.com.
