Qype Raises $11.4 Million

Qype is a user generated review website.  The company has recently raised €8 million ($11.4 million) from Wellington Partners, Advent Venture Partners, and Partech International.  Qype plans on using this round of funding for expansion purposes.  Qype’s total funding thus far is €$13 million ($18.5 million).

Qype currently has reviews for bars, hotels, and events around Berlin, Ireland, France, and the U.K., etc.  Qype was started by Stephan Uhrenbacher.  The site launched in Hamburg in 2005 and then expanded to Germany Switzerland, and Austria by 2007.  The site receives over 5.1 million unique visitors per month and has over 250,000 public reviews according to TechCrunch U.K. 

Through the funding, Qype brought Pelle Tornberg and Eric Archambeau on as non-executive board members.  Tornberg was Metro International’s President and CEO.  Archambeau is a partner at Wellington.
