Ojan Vafai and Aaron Boodman are both engineers that are working on Chrome, the web browser built by Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG).  At the Web 2.0 Expo today, the two have confirmed that add-ons are on the way for the web browser.  The add-ons will work similarly to Mozilla Firefox and GreaseMonkey.   

“There’s two different kinds of add-ons,” stated Vafai. “The Firefox things extend your browser, so to speak, and then there are user scripts. We intend to do both of those in Google Chrome.” Boodman is the founder of Greasemonkey, an add-on that manages scripts that operate on Firefox.  

The most unique faeture of Google Chrome is their tab system.  Each tab acts as it’s own process.  If a process running on one of the individual tabs is causing a bottleneck for the whole browser, just that tab will crash.  One bottleneck tab can cause Mozilla Firefox to crash.  Brendan Eich, CTO of Mozilla stated that they are looking at Google’s technology to figure out how to integrate a similar feature for future versions of Firefox. 

Google Chrome has achieved about 2 million downloads in their first week of release.
