Hasbro Decides To Withdraw Lawsuit Against Scrabulous Creators

Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE:HAS) reported today that they will be withdrawing their lawsuit against Scrabulous creator RJ Softwares.  RJ Softwares was founded by Rajat Agarwalla and Jayant Agarwalla.  RJ Softwares created Scrabulous, but took it down after Hasbro sent them a takedown noticed.  Scrabulous reappeared in the form of Wordscraper as first reported by a commenter on Pulse 2.

Hasbro’s lawsuit withdrawal “provides people in the U.S. and Canada with a choice of different games and also avoids potentially lengthy and costly litigation.”  The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.  The lawsuit was based on the allegation that RJ infringed upon Hasbro’s copyright of the Scrabble board game.  RJ created a Facebook application based on Scrabble.

Since then Hasbro launched their own Scrabble Facebook application, but it did not garner as much popularity as the RJ version.  Hasbro is best known for creating other board games such as Battleship, Boggle, Candy Land, Clue, Cranium, Easy-Bake, G.I. Joe, Hungry Hungry Hippos, Jenga, and Nerf products.
