AT&T Selling $99 iPhone, But It’s Refurbished & Temporary

Earlier this month, Boy Genius Report started a rumor that Wal-Mart may start selling iPhones with a price of $99 with a two year agreement.  The rumor came true to a certain extent.  Wal-Mart will now be selling the iPhones and AT&T will be selling refurbished 8GB black iPhone for $99 with a two year agreement.  Prior to this price, AT&T was selling the same device for $149.

I argued before that Wal-Mart selling a brand new iPhone for $99 will essentially cheapen the Apple brand and that it would not happen.  Refurbished products are a whole different story.  Refurbished products are “previously owned devices that have been unused or lightly used and returned during the 30-day trial period. Each refurbished phone is independently quality tested and loaded with the latest software to meet current factory standards. Some refurbished iPhone 3G devices will have minor scratches.”

This deal will only last until December 31 and can be found here.
