Microsoft Launches Celebrity Gossip Website, Wonderwall
Yahoo! has omg!, AOL has TMZ, and now Microsoft has Wonderwall. It is becoming a trend that every major software or online media company has to have some form of celebrity gossip website. I’ll be honest when I say that I did not expect Microsoft Corporation to go all Perez Hilton on us through their partnership with BermanBraun Interactive in launching Wonderwall.
Wonderwall has side scrolling navigation. As you side scroll, more celebrity gossip news will appear. The navigation is based on Adobe Flash rather than Microsoft’s own Flash-competitor Silverlight. Wonderwall content will appear across many other sites in MSN’s network. The financial details of the project were undisclosed. But it was revealed that Alex Bagg, the former editor of VH1’s Best Week Ever blog will run the site.
“There is a lot of room in the middle for a more balanced approach,” stated Rob Bennett, General Manager at MSN. “We wanted something edgy and thought-provoking but that is still respectful of the people that we’re making light of.” Starcom’s MediaVest division helped sign several of the initial ad sponsors for the new project.
MSN funded a lot of the startup costs associated with Wonderwall. BermanBraun is led by Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun. Braun is the former head of Yahoo!’s media group and Berman is the former president of FOX Broadcasting and Paramount’s movie division. This article was written by Amit Chowdhry.
