I don’t know about you but sometimes when I see dice, I am reminded of the excitement of playing craps at a casino in Vegas.  Buffalo isn’t making it any easier for me by creating speakers that are designed to look like dice.  The speakers were built for iPod products.  When Buffalo releases the dice speakers, it will only be available in Japan initially at the price of about ¥2,814 ($28-$34).

Frenk Janse put together an R2-D2 PC case using a chrome garbage can as the base.  After drilling through the can and painting it, you can have an R2-D2 of your own if you are willing to put in the work.  Janse spent about $150 to build his and it includes a webcam, an HD LED, fans, speakers, a stealth on/off switch, and a slot-in DVD player.

I think that this is the greatest Star Wars-inpsired PC mod that I have seen thus far.  What do you think of it?  Would you want your PC to look like this?  Drop a comment.

Netflix Inc. is another company that has joined in on the Facebook Connect bandwagon.  Netflix linked their ratings system to the social network so that when a user rates a movie on the video rental service website, it gets linked to their profile.

This move is slight competition to LivingSocial.  LivingSocial is a Facebook application system where users can vote on music albums, beer, books, iPhone applications, movies, restaurants, ski slopes, TV shows, and video games.

Netflix has over 10 million subscribers.  Netflix is hoping to leverage that user base to connect with Facebook’s 175 million users.  “Movies make for great conversations,” stated Netflix VP of Product Management Gibson Biddle.

When I think of peripheral devices made out of Legos, I instantly think of Larry Page.  This is because while Page was attending University of Michigan, he created an inkjet printer made out of Lego bricks.  Now it looks like Philo Hurbain has taken a page out of Page’s book.

Hurbain decided to use Lego bricks to create a 3D scanner for photographs.  He was looking for a way to use Legos in an LDraw CAD program.  The Lego scanner includes drive components and sensors.  Check out the video demo below.

Nicholas Arthur Woodhams used a warranty scheme Apple out of 9,075 iPod Shuffle devices.  Woodhams then began to sell the devices over the Internet for $49 each.  The retail price for the Shuffle is about $79.  The complaint filed against Woodhams was made in the U.S. District Court in Grand Rapids.  Woodhams was charged with mail fraud and money laundering.

Woodhams ran an iPod repair business.  He changed around his business several times to “iPod Mechanic,” “iMechanic,” and “Pod Tradeup.”  Woodhams lives in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Woodhams guessed valid serial numbers of iPod Shuffles that were under warranty and had Apple send replacement products.  specific digits that correspond with the model, color, and several other features.

Apple’s return policy requests the defective gadget back from the consumer.  Woodhams got around this by setting up prepaid VISA gift cards and a UPS store mailbox.  VISA would reject the charge requests made by Apple rather than having to send the company any defective units.
