The SanDisk slowRadio player is hitting the digital music market by the end of the month. The features look pretty obvious from the design. It looks like a standard MP3 player with an LCD. However there is a microSD card slot in this gadget. It will be available on SanDisk’s website on March 31st for $99. The price includes a card that can hold over one thousand songs. Not a bad price for a new gadget on the market.
Recently the United Kingdom Prime Minister Gordon Brown was given 25 DVDs of classic American movies by United States President Barack Obama. However when Gordon attempted to play the DVDs he ran into a DRM encryption issue. President Obama gave Brown Region 1 DVDs which were unplayable in Brown’s Region 2 DVD player.
Therefore in this case, the DRM software built into purchased DVDs were preventing the Prime Minister from doing something legal. One of the movies that was given to brown was Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho.
Vimeo, LLC is a video community website with teams based in New York and Portland. There are currently about 1.3 million users and they receive about 13,000 videos uploaded per day. Above is a humorous video that the staff of Vimeo put together.
The Nintendo Wii has been around for three years. The problem with the console was that there was a lot more demand than there was a supply for those first two years. GameStop Senior Vice President Bob McKenzie believes that the company now has enough supply to meet the demand for video game consumers.
“You know, three years later, we finally have enough inventory on the shelf, and we’ve got a couple of weeks in supply of this. That’s good because we can finally determine and gauge it before we get into the fourth holiday season,” stated McKenzie.
McKenzie was also surprised by the success of some of the Wii games. For example, GameStop had no idea that the video game Wii Fit was going to take off as much as it did. EA Active is starting to pick up once again due to the success of games like Wii Fit.
Co-founder of Netscape Jim Clark earned about $2 billion when his company had an IPO. His son-in-law Chad Hurley made millions when he sold his company YouTube to Google. And now Clark is officially married to Australian supermodel Kristy Hinze. The wedding took place this past weekend.
Clark and Hinze’s wedding was a four-day event that took place on Richard Branson’s private Necker Island and the Virgin Gorda. About 120 people attended the lavish affair and there was a no-shoe policy when riding on Clark’s yacht The Athena. This is Clark’s fourth marriage and he turned 65 this past Monday.
Clark is the only man in history to have started three multi-billion dollar companies. Clark is currently worth about $1.1 billion.
Hinze is the host of Project Runway in Australia. She has been a model since age 14 and has graced the cover for Sports Illustrated. Hinze is also a Victoria’s Secret model.
Hinze and Clark have been dating for several years now. Clark was married to Forbes business reporter Nancy Rutter for 15 years. Through the divorce, Rutter made about $100 million in cash, stocks, and bonds. Rutter also received $24.6 million in property, $600,000 ownership stake in a Citation V jet, racehorses, furniture, and jewelry. Hinze is 10 years younger than Clark’s own daughter.

GrubHub is a website where users can find and order food from restaurants. It is currently built for users in Chicago, San Francisco, Boston, New York, and Philadelphia. The company was founded by Mike Evans and Matt Maloney. Recently the company raised an additional $2 million second round in funding.
GrubHub is based in Chicago and recently developed an iPhone application that complements their existing service.
Origin Ventures, Leo Capital, and Amicus Capital participated in this round of funding. The previous round was $1.1 million and Amicus participated in that round.
Qualcomm is generally known for building mobile devices, but now they are officially in the video game console market. Qualcomm has partnered with Tectoy S.A. to build a video game console called Zeebo. Zeebo is intended to be a console made for the middle class in developing countries, or the “video game console for the next billion” as they describe it.
The console will be available for purchase in Brazil next month for $199 and other countries throughout the year. The console is light and will use digital video game downloads rather than disks. The console isn’t intended to compete against beefy consoles such as the PS3, Xbox 360, and the Wii. It
Zeebo attaches to TVs and use a fraction of the electricity of other consoles.
EA, THQ, and Activision Blizzard Inc. have agreed to produce games for the console. Games will sell for cheap prices too. The cost of the games in Brazil will be roughly $10. Next year the company aims to drop the retail cost of the console to about $149.
