Rumor: Apple Orders 100 Million 8 Gigabit NAND Flash Chips
Oh hello, Apple. It sounds like you’ve ordered 100 million 8 Gigabit NAND flash chips recently. The information was reported by the DigiTimes, a Taiwanese publication. Most of the flash chips will be made by Samsung. THis order is twice the size of last year’s order. These memory chips are put into larger sizes and then manufactured into massive hard drives for different devices. Given the order is twice the size, perhaps we should expect some larger sized iPhones or iPods in the near future? How big can these hard drives get? Maybe its for a different purpose than increasing hard drive sizes? As usual, there’s something Apple knows that we don’t.
