Some of the mobile phones that are being released in Japan before the U.S. are just plain cool.  Check out the touchscreen Sharp AQUOS SHOT 933SH.  This phone has a 10 megapixel camera with a low-noise CCD sensor.  The screen also works as point-and-shoot mode for the camera.  The screen is a 3.3″ WVGA display with global roaming capabilities.  If they bring this sleek-silver device to the U.S., I think it would sell very well here.

In order to capture images for their Street View service, Google normally has cars drive around. These cars have been caught hitting a deer and was formed out of a London neighborhood by a human chain. But I guarantee you that this news is a first when I say that a Google Street View cameraman has been caught on a tricycle…. That’s right, a tricycle. Watch this guy ride his bike with the Street View cameras attached on the back. They should give this guy a bike horn in case he runs into any human chains or deer.

The automotive manufacturing company behind Mercedes-Benz, Daimler AG spent “tens of millions” of dollars to buy 10% equity of Tesla Motors.  Tesla, based in San Carlos has been working with Daimler for quite some time to improve battery technologies.

Daimler has already been selling an electric automobile called the Smart Car.  Tesla was the company that provided the batteries and chages for the Smart Car.

Daimler used to own Chrysler after merging in 1998.  Nine years later, Daimler sold Chrysler to Cerberus Capital Management.

Tesla is best known for building a roadster that costs over $100,000.  Last March the company announced a more affordable Model S electric sedan that costs about $57,400.  The Model S is able to get 160-300 miles on a single charge.

Earlier Tesla had attempted to raise $100 million in funding, but settled for $40 million from previous investors.  The partnership will also give Tesla access to Daimler’s “engineering production and supply chain expertise,” stated Tesla Chairman and CEO Elon Musk.  Herbert Kohler, VP of Daimler’s electric-drive systems will be joining the board of Tesla.

Musk was a co-founder of PayPal which sold to eBay for $1.5 billion.  Before that Musk sold a company to Compaq and merged a company with Confinity.  Musk is also the CEO and CTO of SpaceX.

Mogulus has decided to rebrand themselves under a new name: Livestream.com.  The last time I wrote about Mogulus was around July 2008 when they raised $10 million in funding from Gannett.  As part of the funding, Mogulus had to provide online broadcasting services to all of Gannett’s properties.

This week Mogulus decided to rebrand themselves into LiveStream.com.  The company signed up about 1,000 accounts that are paying $350 per month for online broadcasting services.  Livestream has about $12.7 million in reserves.  Mogulus had raised $1.5 million in Series A from private investors in January 2008.

When the company decided to rebrand, they acquired the Livestream.com domain name for about $100,000.  Through advertising opportunities with ScanScout and Google, the company is nearing profitability according to NewTeeVee.

Palm has finally decided to let consumers know when we can pick up their brand new phone, the Pre.  The pre will cost only $199.99 after a $100 rebate and a 2 year contract with Sprint.  The phone will start selling across the U.S. at retail stores such as Best Buy, Radio Shack, and Wal-Mart.

Some of the accessories that can be purchased includes a $69.99 Touchstone charging dock kit which includes a $49.99 dock and a $19.99 Pre back cover.

Two days after the Pre is released to the mobile market, Apple will be holding their WWDC conference.  At WWDC 2007, the Apple iPhone release date was announced and at WWDC 2008 the App Store was announced.  At this year’s WWDC, perhaps Apple should showcase some benchmark studies about why to get an iPhone over the Pre.

Scribd Is Going To Start Selling E-Books

Scribd, also known as the “YouTube of documents” that spun out of Y-Combinator is developing an e-commerce platform.  Scribd is doing this out of response to the irritation that some publishers have in discovering that their books have leaked in e-book format on Scribd.

Anyone can upload a PDF of Word document with almost no limits to Scribd.  You could have a 500 page book in Word document form and Scribd would still accept it as an upload.  Given the popularity of the Kindle and seeing that people are willing to pay for e-books, the e-commerce model makes sense to the company.

In this case the publishers will determine what prices they want to set for their e-books and let them keep 80% of what is earned.  The prices would even range from $1 for a simple novel to $5,000 for an in-depth market research report according to paidContent.

Scribd would introduce a store and will maintain a copyright database of protected works to ensure that no further leaks or pirated works hit the service.

The primary difference between the Kindle and Scribd’s new model is the novelty.  The Kindle is the epitome of physical books becoming obsolete.  Download a full PDF on your computer does not seem to have as much appeal as the Kindle.  But that is just my opinion.  What is yours?  Leave a comment.

Casio Exilim EX-FS10 Has Only Decent Features, But At Least Price Drops To $300

The Casio Exilim EX-FS10 is 16.3mm thick, has 9 megapixel resolution, 3x optical zoom, and a 2.5″ LCD screen.  Slow motion video can be recorded at 1000fps and there is HD movie recording at 1280×720 pixels.  The camera comes in blue, red, gray, and white colors.

Some of the features that the camera lacks is optical image stablization and high image quality.  The slow motion and HD video recording doesn’t look that great when zooming into your target.  Fortunately the price has dipped as it was expected to be around $400.  The camera can be picked up for about $300 from PhotographyBLOG.
