Anytime that someone uses all capital letters when writing tweets or a blog post implies that either they are excited, want to shout something out loud, or is angry about something.  In this case, Kanye went nuts on his blog.  As a result, Twitter deleted a fake Kanye West profile: @kanyewest.

Below is the full message that Kanye wrote on his blog (swear words bleeped out by me):
(This spaz comes courtesy of losers making fake Kanye West Twitter accounts) I DON’T HAVE A F***ING TWITTER… WHY WOULD I USE TWITTER??? I ONLY BLOG 5 PERCENT OF WHAT I’M UP TO IN THE FIRST PLACE. I’M ACTUALLY SLOW DELIVERING CONTENT BECAUSE I’M TOO BUSY ACTUALLY BUSY BEING CREATIVE MOST OF THE TIME AND IF I’M NOT AND I’M JUST LAYING ON A BEACH I WOULDN’T TELL THE WORLD. EVERYTHING THAT TWITTER OFFERS I NEED LESS OF. THE PEOPLE AT TWITTER KNOW I DON’T HAVE A F***ING TWITTER SO FOR THEM TO ALLOW SOMEONE TO POSE AS ME AND ACCUMULATE OVER A MILLION NAMES IS IRRESPONSIBLE AND DECEITFUL TO THERE FAITHFUL USERS. REPEAT… THE HEADS OF TWITTER KNEW I DIDN’T HAVE A TWITTER AND THEY HAVE TO KNOW WHICH ACCOUNTS HAVE HIGH ACTIVITY ON THEM. IT’S A F***ING FARCE AND IT MAKES ME QUESTION WHAT OTHER SO CALLED CELEBRITY TWITTERS ARE ACTUALLY REAL OR FAKE. HEY TWITTER, TAKE THE SO CALLED KANYE WEST TWITTER DOWN NOW …. WHY? … BECAUSE MY CAPS LOCK KEY IS LOUD!!!!!!!!!

Clearly Kanye is not happy about the quality of service at Twitter.  Perhaps one of his future songs will diss Twitter.  To manage his own blog, Kanye has employed two people to run it.

Michigan Kid Gets In Trouble For Modding Camera Into Stun Gun

Above is a video from a year ago from the Associated Press that discusses how a 14 year old in Connecticut made a stun gun using a disposable camera. Earlier this week an 18 year old boy in Michigan at the Dakota High School in Macomb Township did the same thing and even zapped willing friends with it as a joke.

“They thought it was a prank,” stated Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hackel. “We want to warn kids that this isn’t funny and warn parents that they need to keep a watch on what their kids are doing on the Internet.”

The teenager may face felony and misdemeanor charges because of the incident. One of the students had already been suspended. The modified camera had black electrical tape around the body and two small metal prongs which emitted the shock. Other than that, it is difficult to tell whether the camera had been modded or not.

The jolt felt from the stun gun made out of a camera is less powerful than what the police have but could still cause damage to someone with a pre-existing medical condition.

Twitter’s Replies Kerfuffle and What Happened

Twitter has grown such a massive community that when a small change is made to the system, it gets immediately noticed.  In this case, a change that was made that affects 3% of users started a backlash.  Hence the Twitter blog post titled The Replies Kerfuffle.

“For the 3% who wanted to see replies to people they don’t follow, we cannot turn this setting back on in its original form for technical reasons and we won’t rebuild it exactly the same for product design reasons,” wrote Twitter co-founder Biz Stone.

The reason why this feature was turned off is because it was one of the most expensive features Twitter has running.  Every time that someone had wrote a reply on Twitter, the system had to check to see what the followers reply setting was and then add that tweet according to the timeline.  It is a massive strain on Twitter’s database and in turn makes the whole service more unreliable (FAIL WHALE!).

Twitter would redesign the whole system, but they have limited time to do so which is why they had to suddenly deploy the new limiting feature.

Personally I’m not upset about the change, but whenever a service makes less features available it is never a good thing.  For entertainment purposes, I will leave you a screenshot of a search I conducted of the keywords “twitter” “replies” and “wtf.”

D-Link Routers Add CAPTCHA For Extra Security

We all know the Completely Automatic Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart (CAPTCHA) test as being one of the most annoying forms of security.  To prove that you are actually human and not a spambot, you have to enter a random set of letters or numbers into a text field when registering for e-mail accounts, website newsletters, adding a comment to a blog, etc.  Half the time the CAPTCHA letters aren’t legible themselves, but that’s another story.

D-Link has decided to roll out CAPTCHA into the software of their router hardware.  The CAPTCHA security has been added to the DIR-615, DIR-625, DIR-628, DIR-655, DIR-825, DIR-855, DIR-685, and the DGL-4500.  The upgrade for other models can be found from the support.dlink.com website.

Earlier I wrote about how someone used an iRobot and a hamster to clean up the floor. Above is a video of a mod used to make sand patterns on your floor using an old inkjet printer and an iRobot. The sand patterns are called Rangoli which is a popular art form in India. When you get tired of the sandy art, fortunately the vacuum can suck it back up again.

Hulu Is Not Happy With Nielsen’s Web Traffic Reports

Video website service Hulu, led by Jason Kilar and joint partnership between NBC, FOX, and Disney is not happy with the way that Nielsen has been reporting their traffic figures.  In March, Nielsen reported that Hulu received about 8.9 million visitors, but comScore reported 42 million.

Generally when traffic is monitored, it makes the most sense to collect the data from servers directly.  Third party figures are usually off because there are many other variables.  What irked Hulu the most was Nielsen’s reporting of the unique visitors.

Nielsen reported that Hulu’s video streams in 373 million streams in April, 348 million in March, and 309 million in February.  But then they said that Hulu’s uniques in April were 7.4 million, 8.9 million in March, and 9.5 million in February.

Hulu did receive a spike in traffic after the Super Bowl, but measuring analytics firm Quantcast did not report a drop in traffic.  To track analytics a snippet of Quantcast code is embedded into a website.  “There is more work that can be done with all of our research providers to ensure that online video metrics are accurately represented to users and clients,” stated Hulu SVP of Advertising Jean-Paul Colaco.

The Dell Mini 10 and Mini 10v netbooks will soon have the option to have a TV tuner built-in.  Dell is currently working on bringing this product to the market, but it will have the low price of about $50 when being added to the order.  The $50 includes an external antenna.
