Flint, Michigan is in rough shape right now with General Motors filing for bankruptcy and thousands becoming unemployed in the process.  Many of the biggest employers in the city were automotive plants, but that may change in the near future.  The city will soon be building the country’s first biogas plants.

The biogas plant will be built by Swedish Biogas International.  Biogas is the production of gas using the biological breakdown of organic matter including human waste.  Biogas would be used to power the city’s vehicle fleet.  The plant was announced last September when the King of Sweden spoke at Kettering University.

The plant will cost about $8 to $10 million to be built and construction has not started as of yet.  The construction is expected sometime this August.
