The Konami Code (up up down down left right left right B A ENTER) was often times used for cheats for games made by the company. Konami used this code for games such as Contra, Castlevania, TMNT, DDR etc. This code has been used in various pop culture forms.
Facebook used this same code to display a lens glare on the homepage. ESPN used it to have unicorns appear on their website. GameSpot.com uses the same code to redirect a user to the Contra for NES cheat codes page. And now it turns out that the Palm Pre is using it to enable Developer Mode on the phone.
Above is a demo video of the Konami Code being applied to the Pre. The device asks the user to Reset the Device to turn on Developer Mode Enabler. This is used to connect the Pre to a machine running the Mojo SDK for webOS.
Bryan Tate slapped together a custom barbeque grill that is in the shape of the Death Star from the movie Star Wars. The grill is currently selling on eBay and is bid up to about $150 as of right now. There is still about a day and a half until the auction is over so if you want it check it out now.
The weapon dish acts as the vent and there is a little Imperial Cruiser handle to carry the BBQ grill around. The Death Star BBQ grill was made using two Weber grills and barbeque paint for heat resistance on the outside. The vent on the top was custom made and there is a second vent underneath.
Earlier this month, a leaked image and specs of the BlackBerry Tour 9630 hit the Net. Another image has surfaced where the Tour 9630 has been branded by Canada’s Telus. It will be available on multiple carriers in the U.S. too. The release date is expected to be by July 13th.
British hacker Gary McKinnon was responsible for one of the biggest military hacks of all time. He had admitted to data intrusion to find out whether UFOs exist. The computers he attacked belong to NASA.
McKinnon said that he did not cause any damages while hacking NASA’s systems, but the U.S. government claims that he stole 950 passwords and deleted files that were necessary for replenishing the supplies of an Atlantic fleet. This took place in 2001. The U.S. government also believes that McKinnon disrupted military network operations conducted after 9/11. The damages caused by McKinnon’s behavior is estimated to be around $700,000.
The lawyers of McKinnon is claiming that the hacker is too sick to travel to the United States. McKinnon has Asperger’s Syndrome which they are claiming could drive him to suicide if he travels to the U.S.
The House of Lords and the European Court of Human Rights have approved McKinnon’s extradition to the U.S. so it is very likely that he will end up going. If McKinnon is not extradited to the U.S., he may face less serious penalties in the U.K. courts. The matter is under judicial review by Home Secretary Jacqui Smith.
Ed Whitacre Jr. is the former CEO of AT&T. He helped rebuild AT&T when it was the U.S. Department of Justice divested the Bell System from AT&T. AT&T was the largest corporation in the world up until then. Whitacre has now been chosen by the U.S. government to lead the new General Motors once it emerges from Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
“I don’t know anything about cars,” stated Whitacre in an interview with Bloomberg. “A business is a business, and I think I can learn about cars. I’m not that old, and I think the business principles are the same.”
Whitacre arrived to AT&T through a series of acquisitions. He became CEO of SBC in 1988 and then bought Pacific Telesis (1997), SNET (1998), Comcast Cellular (1999), Ameritech (1999), and then AT&T (2005).
Classified advertising company Craigslist is expected to hit $100 million in revenue later this year according to a study by the Classified Intelligence Report made by the AIM Group. The AIM Group counted the number of paid ads on the website and determined the projections based on the rates. The projections were conservative too.
“We are a privately held company and never comment on guesses of our revenue. Nor have we ever commented on any number bandied around in the past,” stated Craigslist spokeswoman Susan MacTavish Best. The AIM Group did not estimate the profits, but it is believed to be quite substantial. Craigslist just has 30 employees.
Craigslist makes a majority of their revenues from charging for classified ads in 18 major cities. The classifieds ads in the other 570 cities are free. In New York, Craigslist charges real estate brokers $10 per listing. Erotic service listings also have a cost too.
Thrustmaster has announced a couple of new accessories for the Nintendo Wii in the form of tennis rackets called the Tennis Duo Pack NW. The Duo Pack NW is design to work with the Wii MotionPlus controllers. The Duo Pack NW makes using the controller feel like you’re playing real tennis. The grip of the tennis rackets are rubber coated. The total cost of the Duo Pack is $24.99.
Fatih Can Sarioz has designed a kitchen called the COOX Kitchen. The kitchen has a circular oven and cutting board area placed in the center of the room. This enables the physically disabled to cook and prepare food without assistance. The kitchen is designed in two sections: the cooking section and the dining section.
One side has several drawers, a microwave, and a fridge with a pneumatic system and electric motor. The cooking area also has a microwave oven and cooker. The dining section has cutting boards a table for sitting and eating.
