Over 1.5 Billion Apple Applications Downloaded Within One Year

Apple announced today that about 1.5 billion applications were downloaded within one year of the App Store launch.  There are about 100,000 developers and 65,000 applications on the iTunes App Store today.

“The App Store is like nothing the industry has ever seen before in both scale and quality,” stated Apple CEO Steve Jobs in a press release. “With 1.5 billion apps downloaded, it is going to be very hard for others to catch up.”

Applications are available for users to download in 77 countries and works with the original iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3G S, and iPod Touch.  Over 40 million of those four devices have been shipped thus far.
