Verizon has reported a 21 percent drop in its 2Q profits. The drop was fueled by pension expenses and a decline in the company’s enterprise business. Verizon, which has more than 235,000 employees, said it will cut 8,000 jobs this year.
The company added 1.1 million mobile subscribers. It now has a total of 87.7 million subscribers. It also added 300,000 customers to its high speed fiber optic service. It now has 2.5 million FIOS TV customers and 3.1 million FIOS Internet customers.
Verizon also confirmed today that they plan to carry the Palm Pre early next year. The Pre has a six-month exclusive contract with Sprint. Verizon will likely carry the Pre when Sprint’s exclusivity ends.
Nvidia product manager Chris Daniel said in a blog post that Windows 7 is “the first Windows operating system to treat the graphics processing unit (GPU) as a real peer to the CPU.” Windows 7 will offer improved graphics performance by efficiently delegating graphics intensive work to video cards.
One noteworthy factor behind the operating system’s speed boost is DirectX Compute. DirectX Compute is an API that allows developers to utilize the parallel computing power built into newer graphics processors.
Windows 7 has been released to manufacturers and will be available to everyone else on October 22nd.
Atari says that the Ghostbusters video game has sold one million copies in the US. The game is available on the DS, Wii, PSP, PS2, PS3, 360, and PC.
“We are very pleased with the performance of Ghostbusters: The Video Game, and credit the game’s quality as well as the incredible support from both the established and new fan-base all helping to make this a retail success. Ghostbusters appears to be a strong and relevant movie-based franchise video game independent of a brand-new theatrical release. We look forward to the continued success of the title as interest and acclaim increase across North America.”
Atari posted a 30 percent rise in revenue fueled by strong game sales. Atari has been stressing to launch successful titles after running into financial trouble.

Earlier today, everyone was talking about about a possible Pre price drop. A picture surfaced of a $99 Palm Pre at Best Buy. It looked like an out the door price and did not involve any kind of rebate.
Best Buy had not releases a statement about the price drop so it was unknown whether the drop is simply a promotion or if it permanent.
John Bernier, Best Buy’s Marketing Manager cleared up the issue via Twitter. He said it was a human error and that the price is still $199.
If the price drop were real, this would be bad news for Palm. The Pre launched less than two months ago. A price drop this fast would mean that Palm sales are not strong at its current price point.

I never really cared much for Danny DeVito’s work until he took the role as Frank on the show It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. Now I think he is one of the greatest actors of all time after starring in that show. This is why I thought that it was interesting when I found out that he is working on a new web project.
His new project is called The Blood Factory. The Blood Factory is a website that will have videos of short horror films just like the interview above. As of right now there are about 6 videos available on the website also known as “Splatter Cuts,” produced by DeVito. DeVito even rolled with some of the stars of his new video website known as the Evil Cheerleaders at Comic Con.
An Apple rep called Microsoft to complain about how they recently dropped the prices of their laptops. Lauren, a character in a Microsoft commercial mentions that the Apple MacBook Pro laptop is “over $2,000″ in a Laptop Hunters commercial. The price of that laptop is now $1,700.
Microsoft complied with Apple’s complaint by altering the commercial so that Lauren no longer mentions the price. This just proves that Microsoft’s commercial actually is irritating Apple’s marketing team. Turner mentioned that Microsoft will keep pumping out Laptop Hunter ads.
