Matthew Crippen is a 27 year old student at the California State University-Fullerton.  Earlier this week Crippen was arreted for illegally modifying video game consoles Microsoft XBox, Nintendo Wii, and the Sony PlayStation.  Crippen enabled the consoles to play pirated games.

Crippen was released after posting a $5,000 bond.  He was arrested for violating the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.  The Immigration and Customs Enforcement received a tip from the Entertainment Software Association.  After that the Immigration and Customs Enforcement searched Crippen’s home in May.

The federal grand jury indicted Crippen on two counts.  If convicted, Crippen could face about 10 years in prison.  His arraignment will take place on August 10.
