In the U.S. and Canada there are now about 2,500 movie titles available in Blu-Ray format. For those of you that have a goal to add as many Blu-Ray Discs to your collection as possible, you need a place to store them right?
Sony has a solution. They are selling a new device called the BDP-CX7000ES which can hold up to 400 discs. The BDP-CX7000ES can automatically download software called Gracenote MusicID and VideoID which can download cover art and make navigation simple.
The BDP-CX7000ES player supports 1080p video and 24p support. The Cinema HD upscaler adjusts the image quality at a per pixel level too. Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD, and DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 channel sound is compatible with the device.
On August 23, 1999 a startup company by the name of Pyra Labs started a service called Blogger. Blogger was a service that directly competed with Xanga. Pyra Labs was started by Evan Williams and Meg Hourihan.
About four years after launching, Google bought out Pyra Labs and hired the team. Williams himself did not stick around Google for long because he decided to start another startup company known as Twitter. Twitter is known as a “micro-blogging” service.
As part of the 10th year anniversary, the Blogger team at Google is promising their users a bunch of new features. Although the new features have not been revealed yet, the company said that they have listened to a lot of the feedback that was given about the service.
One of the biggest problems with Blogger today is spam abuse. Signing up and setting up a blog using the service is so easy that spammers can quickly take charge. Last year, Sophos an anti-virus company estimated that Blogger accounts for 2% of all malware on the web.
The London Heathrow Airport is the world’s busiest airport in terms of international passenger traffic. The airport has just completed a $41 million project in the form of automated transport pods. The four passenger transport pods take people from Terminal 5 to the airport parking lots.
There is a touchscreen where you tap what airport parking lot you would like to stop at. The pods then travel to your destination at 25MPH. If this transportation system is successful, then the airport will add another $400 million to the project and possibly expand the service to airports.
The new pod transport system is called the PRT (personal rapid transport). Heathrow has been developing this transport system for over 12 years.
One of the most popular Twitter features is the “retweet.” Retweeting simply means that you repeat another Twitter user’s status update while still referencing that user. So let’s say that my user name on Twitter is Pulse2Dotcom and I wrote the following tweet:
Huffington Post and Facebook Partner On HuffPost Social News: Liberal-focused The Huffington Post and social net.. http://bit.ly/dsoVi
If another user want to repeat my message, it would appear something like this:
RT@Pulse2DotCom Huffington Post and Facebook Partner On HuffPost Social News: http://bit.ly/dsoVi
TweetDeck, a desktop application built to support Twitter already has an automatic retweet feature integrated, but Twitter.com itself does not support the feature. Tweetmeme is a website that automatically tracks how many times your website has been retweeted.
Now the team at Twitter is planning to integrate this feature within their own service. The sketch above shows to the developer community around Twitter how the feature will be integrated within a Twitter user’s homepage itself.
If a person you follow retweets another user, the message and profile picture of the person that is retweeted will appear on your homepage regardless of whether you follow the retweeted person. This feature will be optional for you.
“We are still sketching out exactly how this feature and its API counterpart works. Sharing our thoughts before launching means developers will have the opportunity to prepare their applications,” wrote Twitter co-founder Biz Stone. “In a few weeks or so we’ll launch the feature on our web site and because app developers had a chance to prepare, it should become available across most of the Twitter ecosystem about the same time. This way, we can all enjoy retweeting—however we choose to access Twitter.”
Facebook is being sued for violation of privacy, copyright, and for hosting images of people without the consent of those who are in the pictures.
Below is an excerpt of the lawsuit on behalf of an 11 year old girl:
“Plaintiff Xavier O. is an 11-year-old minor residing with his parents in Orange County, California. Plaintiff Xavier O. has a Facebook account that was opened without the knowledge or consent of his parent or guardian. Plaintiff Xavier O. has uploaded personal information, videos and photographs, including swimming and/or partially clothed photographs of children ages 5 to 11. On or about August 8, 2009, Plaintiff Xavier O. posted ‘Xavier O. has swine flu… Please pray for me… God Bless.’ Upon learning of the Facebook account and the posting of an uncertain medical condition, Plaintiff Xavier O’s parents removed the medical condition posting from Facebook. Xavier O. and his parents have been unable to learn where the minor’s medical information may have been stored, disseminated or sold by Facebook.”
This sounds like more of a parental issue to me. One of the complaints even mentions how Facebook went from being known as Thefacebook to Facebook.com.
“Catherine Aiko is a college student. She joined ‘a Mark Zuckerberg production’ called ‘Thefacebook’ in or about May 2005, and was required to have a verified college email to join. Thefacebook of 2004 and/or 2005 states Thefacebook is ‘an online directory that connects people through social networks at schools’ that prides itself in being a positive environment for peers to safely interact.’ The facebook of 2004 and/or 2005 states it was ‘limited to your own college or university, and ‘members’ could ‘use Thefacebook to: Search for people at your school, Find out who is in your classes, and Look up your friends’ friends.’ The Terms and Conditions of 2004 and 2005 changed over time and at various dates stated ‘You may remove your Member Content from the site at any time. If you choose to remove your Member Content, the license granted… will automatically expire.”
The attorneys representing the plaintiffs above and several other plaintiffs are Dana B. Taschner of and W. Mark Lanier of Lanier Law Firm.
“We see no merit to this suit and we plan to fight it,” stated Facebook spokesman Barry Schnitt.
Ypulse is a youth marketing blog that is run by Anastasia Goodstein. Ypulse recently merged with SurveyU. SurveyU is an online college survey website.
Ypulse went beyond being a blog and expanded into event logging. Ypulse recently sold a stake in their company to Modern Media Partners. Modern Media Partners is a business conferences and media company.
Ypulse and SurveyU’s merged company will be called Youth Pulse. Youth Pulse focuses on news, events, and research that is related to youth-oriented organizations.
“We’re excited by the opportunity to expand Ypulse beyond news, commentary and events to developing research-based insights that will help organizations to engage youth in an authentic and ethical way,” stated Goodstein.
Up until recently there was no way to receive push notifications for e-mail through GMail on the iPhone. However an application called GPush has been added to the iTunes App Store earlier this month.
Push notifications are one of the biggest advantages that BlackBerry mobile phones had over the iPhone before the iPhone OS 3.0 was released. The application does not open or send e-mails, it literally only sends push notifications. GPush was developed by Tiverias Apps.
GPush is easy to set up. All you have to do is submit your user name and password. After entering the information, you just have to agree to let the app send you push notifications. The application still has several bugs, but it still works pretty well.
On September 9, Apple will be hosting its annual iPod and media event. Apple has been hosting this event every year since 2005 to unveil new lines of iPods.
As part of the event, some of the expected announcements that may take place are a new line of iPods that will have cameras.
AllThingsD confirmed the date of the event and speculates that the event will take place at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Will Steve Jobs be there? What are your guesses? Look out for our complete coverage on that date.
