Alex Moctezuma came up with an idea to use videos, games, and learning activities for educational purposes. Moctezuma decided to launch a website as a result called Clasemovil.com. Clasemovil is made for kids in K-12th grade across Latin America. There are hundreds of interactive lessons within the website in the form of videos and games. Students can select the subject of their choice such as math, history, language, history, etc.

Students will earn points for questions that they answer correctly and there is a leaderboard that showcases the high scores. The points earned can be used virtual currency to buy virtual goods. Teachers and schools will be able to monitor the scores of students to find out if someone is struggling.

Clasemovil would make money by charging premium memberships for students and bulk licensing for schools. An angel investor has put in $500,000 for the development of Clasemovil.com. Creating the educational content took about two years.

“Hi, Peter. What’s happening? We need to talk about your TPS reports.” After watching the video below of Frank Addante giving a tour of The Rubicon Project office I could imagine losing my mind working there. The Rubicon Project is an online advertising company that sounds just like Initech. I’m surprised Addante did not say that Friday was Hawaiian shirt day since that is the case at Initech.

Rubicon Project recently acquired Others Online, a Seattle based behavioral marketing company. Rubicon started in 2007 and raised $34 million in total funding. Others Online is a 4 person company which indicates that Rubicon was interested in hiring them for their talents. Now that Rubicon Project has a behavioral marketing team on their hands, they can provide more information to their advertisers about what they are getting out of their money.

There are only a certain number of start-ups that can walk around feeling like over a billion dollars or more.  Facebook and LinkedIn are both in that club.   And now Twitter will be joining the billionaire’s club in their next round of funding that will give them that valuation.  Twitter co-founder revealed a new round of potential funding that will put them at a $1 billion valuation at an all hands meeting according to a TechCrunch source.

Twitter will raised $50 million to receive the $1 billion valuation.  In the past Twitter had already raised $35 million from Benchmark Capital and Institutional Venture Partners.  The $35 million round gave them a valuation of $250 million.  Thus far Twitter has raised $55 million in funding.  That should keep them going for a while despite not having a revenue model.  The rumored investor in the upcoming round is expected to be New York based venture capital firm Insight Venture Partners.

One of the cooler companies I watched presenting at the TechCrunch50 event over UStream is iTwin. When you want two computers to network with each other, you have to setup passwords, set up the networking events on Mac, Windows, or Linux, and a series of other steps. iTwin makes the process as easy as plug and play. The way it works is that the USB drive has a part that snaps off and can be plugged into another person’s USB drive. While both USB drives are connected, both users will be connected too. It doesn’t matter where in the world both computers are.

iTwin came up with the idea when they realized that everyone knows how USB flash drives work, but people often struggle to network computers. Their product is intended for the mass market and not techies. About 200 million flash drives are expected to be sold next year. iTwin wants to penetrate that market and they plan to sell their device for $99. iTwin is based in Singapore. The company is led by Lux Anatharaman and Kal Takru.
