D’oh! The Waldo water robot in Sarasota, Florida went missing shortly after going out to sea. The Waldo robot costed $130,000 to make and was created to find toxic algae bloom, also known as red tide. Waldo was made at the Mote Marine Laboratory.
Mote scientist Gary Kirkpatrick issued the following statement:
Waldo was making reports every two hours, Then, bam, it just stopped sending a signal. There are a few possibilities that we think are likely: It could have had a major leak or malfunction and sank to the bottom and is just sitting there. Or, it could have had a malfunction with its computer or its communication system and is floating on the surface but unable to tell us that it’s there.
Yes, you can download sticky note software for your desktop or actually have physical stick notes to place all over your monitor, but what fun is that? I’d much rather have the Scratch-n-Scroll notable mousepad. The mousepad was designed by Quirky and is selling them for only $9.49. Notes and drawings can be made on the mousepad using your finger or a pen.
50 Cent (Curtis Jackson) recently wrote a book called The 50th Law with Robert Greene. 50 Cent is one of the smartest rappers slash businessman. He invested in Vitamin Water and made $100 million after-taxes when Coca-Cola bought them out for $1.4 billion.
50 Cent recently appeared on CNBC to talk about his “business acumen.” During the interview when 50 Cent was asked about how piracy makes him feel? Does it anger him or is part of the marketing? 50 Cent: “I say its a part of the marketing because the people that didn’t even purchase the material from a pirating perspective… They end up at the concert.”
50 Cent added that piracy could not be stopped. If they could the major labels would actually stop it, but they can’t.
When the government invests in a company, you know that company is on to something big. Solar Roadways received a $100,000 grant to develop “the first ever Solar Road panel.” What this means is that road panels embedded on highways will be able to create electricity that can be reused. The Solar Road panel will also be able to warn drivers about highway conditions such as an accident or construction. Each panel would cost about $7,000 initially. I’m surprised that the DoE only invested $100,000 considering how ambitious this project is. But perhaps that should be enough to create some impressive prototypes to wow them for more money.
Hyukjae Chang designed an extension cord where the sockets are upside-down. The wires are all collected in one area of the Power Bridge before getting plugged in. And best of all, when the power is connected, an LED at the top of the Power Bridge turns on indicating that the plug is active. Chang is currently studying for his Bachelor’s in Industrial Design over at Auburn University.

When Apple Inc. approved Spotify, it blew everyone’s minds. Apple had literally approved an iTunes competitor, a type of app that generally gets rejected quickly. Spotify is a Swedish P2P music streaming service that has almost no buffering delay and witnessed a huge demand on bandwidth when their iPhone application was approved. Because of the approval and bandwidth demands, Spotify had to become invite-only again for their membership services.
“We are going to have to temporarily reinstate our invite system in the UK. We are invite-only in all our other launch countries but we hope to be able to remove the need for an invite again very soon,” stated Spotify’s Andres Sehr in a blog post.
Playlists on Spotify can be created for free, but there are radio advertisements that are played in between songs. Spotify also allows users to create collaborative playlists which are given their own web addresses. Spotify was taken out of invite-only in February but had to go back because of the iPhone app. Those that are willing to pay to get direct access can register for Spotify will have to cough up £10 per month. The advantage of paying that price is that the music will be ad-free.
Chris Brown, the rapper that was the subject of controversy for assaulting Rihanna has decided to make a song for the Twitter audience called “Song For Twitter.” The chorus by Chris Brown is: “I be going out, I’m a go-getta, I be pullin knowledge (I think?) follow me like Twitt-ah, follow me like Twitt-ah.” But the rest of the song has nothing to do with Twitter at all.
This is the second mainstream song about Twitter. The first was called “Hit Me On Twitter” by Mistah F.A.B. I think that song was more interesting because Twitter was incorporated all over the video and the lyrics.
This year there has been more songs about Twitter than Google. The last time a mainstream Google song came out was over a year ago. That song was called “Google Me” by Teyana Taylor.
