Back in February Meg Whitman formed an exploratory committee to become a candidate as the Governor of California. Whitman has personal wealth of $1.1 billion, made mostly through her tenure as the eBay CEO. She worked as the eBay CEO from March 1998 to November 2007. During the last presidential election, she personally endorsed John McCain. She served as the national co-chair for the McCain campaign.

Two of the biggest mistakes Whitman made while working at eBay was the acquisition of Skype and failing to compete in China. eBay is trying to sell off Skype, but is being sued by the founders of the company at the same time of patent issues. Below is an excerpt of her speech on her campaign website:

eBay was the culmination of my business career. It’s the place where I tested my years of experience and honed my leadership skills. But it was also much more.
At eBay, I helped millions of people create small businesses in the marketplace. I became intimately familiar with the challenges small businesses face in this country.

I came to understand that job creation is dependent on a fragile mix of circumstances – circumstances all too often disrupted by the intrusive hand of government.
And I came to love the inspired individual – a person set free to pursue his or her dreams by an open marketplace and a free society.

Government does not create wealth in this country – inspired individuals create wealth. Helping those people succeed on eBay was the privilege of a lifetime. My interest in public service blossomed from my years at eBay. It’s an interest that was fueled by my parents, both of whom served their country in the Pacific during World War II. And it’s an interest that was inspired by my long friendships with Mitt Romney and John McCain.

Roman Abramovich
Roman Abramovich must really dislike the paparazzi because he is installing an anti-photo shield on his 557 foot yacht called Eclipse. Eclipse has two helipads, two swimming pools, and 6 foot movie screens in guest cabins. There is also a mini-submarine and missile proof windows. You could almost say that Eclipse is ready for war. However the yacht is still vulnerable to getting its picture by the Paparazzi. Roman can’t be having that so he decided to have anti-photo technology installed on the yacht.

The anti-paparazzi shield that uses lasers for sweep the area to detect CCD devices. If a CCD device is detected, a bolt of light is sent to the camera that will mess up the photo. The lasers aren’t running all the time, but it is expected to be turned on if the paparazzi is noticed. According to a lawyer based in London, photographers stopped from taking Roman’s pictures on the yacht could receive compensation. Because when you mess with the goods belonging to someone else, it is considered a trespass to the goods. But it is also safe to assume that Roman and his wealth will make sure that photographers will have a strong case.

Roman is a 42 year old billionaire and is considered the 51st richest person in the world with a net worth of $8.5 billion. Roman owns the Chelsea Football Club too.

Johan Sellstrom Requests Bankruptcy For Global Gaming Factory X

Global Gaming Factory X agreed to buy out The Pirate Bay a couple of months ago for $7.7 million but that deal may fall through. This is because the company was de-listed from the stock exchange because they claimed that they do have the money to acquire the torrent search engine company.

Now former Global Gaming Factory X director and board member Johan Sellstrom claims he is owed hundreds of thousands of dollars by the company. Therefore he requests bankruptcy for Global Gaming Factory X. This is because of an outstanding debt of 1.3 million Swedish kronor ($188,000) that Global Gaming owes to Advate Systems, a company that was started by Sellstrom.

Given the bankruptcy request, it will now become clear whether the deal will go through or fall through. I can’t even imagine what a headache this whole process has been with The Pirate Bay and Global Gaming Factory X. Regardless, Global Gaming Factory X shareholders deserve to know the truth.

Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) claims that they have learned from their previous mistakes of selling fresh groceries online. However in the next 3 months, Amazon.com decided to launch a grocery business again but it will be limited to the Seattle area. The grocery service is called Amazon Fresh.

Amazon will be limiting the advertising for the service in order to keep the costs low. The company will also limit how fast they expand to other cities. Amazon Fresh launched as a test project a couple of years ago and currently operates in about 49 Seattle zip codes.

WebVan and PublixDirect shut down in 2001 and 2003 respectively. WebVan filed for bankruptcy and PublixDirect did not get much sales volume. “We have a lot of confidence in the long-term economics,” stated Amazon.com VP of Consumables Doug Herrington in an interview. “For a significant portion of the population, they’re going to find that the convenience, selection and pricing of online grocery shopping is going to be really compelling.” WebVan.com is currently owned by Amazon.com and it is used to sell food items too.

iTunes Still Has A Spam Problem With Apps (xhumans)

This past Friday, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) approved close to 1,400 applications. This is a record breaker for the most number of applications approved in a single day. Over 300 of the applications accepted were games.

Surely it is a good thing that Apple is getting many application submissions… or is it? Apple already had to ban a company called Perfect Acumen from the App Store which was run by Khalid Shaikh. Perfect Acumen had 943 applications on the app store and they were mostly crap selling for $4.99. By crap I mean 4-5 pictures of a celebrity selling for $4.99. It was an insult to developers that put in a lot of effort in real applications.

Now iTunes has another spammer in their midst called xhumans. xhumans has 459 applications and they are just as bad as Shaikh’s apps. Apple may want to look into this.
