HTC sent out a tweet about 18 hours ago that said “The rumors are true! Hero will be getting an Eclair update. We ask for your patience as we update Sense for the fancy new Android OS.” Eclair is the code name for the second version of the Google mobile operating system.

Some of the new Android 2.0 features include:
- Multiple email and contact accounts (including Microsoft Exchange).
- Combined inbox for browing multiple e-mail accounts on one page.
- Search functions for SMS and MMS messages
- Auto delete old messages when limits are reached.
- Digital zoom, scene mode, white balance, color effects, and macro focus for photos
- Multi-touch keyboard support
- Smart dictionary that learns word usage and suggests even contact names
- Thumbnails of web pages in the bookmarks section of the browser
- Double-tap zoom support
- HTML 5 support

Three years ago, Conde Nast bought out Reddit. Reddit is a website where a community of users vote on the most interesting stories. The most interesting recent stories land on the Reddit homepage and receive a large number of visits. Conde Nast has been taking a hit lately as its been discovered that they may lose $1 billion in ad revenue this year.

Steve Huffman and Alexis Ohanian both founded Reddit after launching it from Y-Combinator. Christopher Rowe and Aaron Swartz joined the team shortly after the company was founded. Y-Combinator is an incubation firm started by Paul Graham. Both of the Reddit founders are leaving for personal reasons.

Huffman is moving back to Virginia to spend more time with his wife. Ohanian plans to spend some time traveling. Rowe will be staying with Reddit for a while. Swartz was fired from Reddit two years ago for not respecting the company rules after being acquired by Wired Magazine.

This past March, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NYSE:AMD) hired Bruce Claflin to replace Hector Ruiz. It is a good thing that Ruiz was replaced back then because the former AMD Chairman is now involved with a controversial case.

Supposedly Ruiz is being investigated for providing insider information to the Galleon Group’s Danielle Chiesi. Chiesi was arrested earlier this month for generating over $25 million in illegal profits. Ruiz had become chairman of GlobalFoundries Inc., an AMD spin-off, after being replaced by Claflin.

Galleon Group portfolio manager and founder Raj Rajaratnam was also arrested for receiving insider information. Galleon Group is a hedge fund based in New York. Rajaratnam said that he plans to fight the insider-trading charges.

Vdopia is a video advertising company that specializes in mobile devices. Vdopia displays video ads to iPhone users when applications are downloading on the device. These videos are known as “pree-app” advertising.

Vdopia doesn’t just deliver video ads, but they also serve “in-app” banner ads. The company claims to have about 100 million visitors per month. The company has raised $4 million from Nexus Venture Partners recently. Vdopia also said that they have had a 400% boost in click-through rates.

Rohit Sharma joined Vdopia has the company CEO. Sharma was previously the EVP and CTO of ONI Systems.

Improv Everywhere is a group of people that hit the streets to perform musicals or other random acts that gain the attention of the public around them. In most cases, Improv Everywhere is filmed and has videos uploaded on YouTube. These videos often become viral gold. The latest is viral video is Grocery Store Musical.

The Grocery Store Musical video is about one week old and it already has almost about 1 million views. On Facebook alone, there has been over 60,000 views in about a week.

DJ Hero is a video game that was made by FreeStyleGames and Activision. The game features a turntable with buttons that acts as the controller. The objective of the game is to “scratch” and mix music when in order to match the beats. There is music and avatars in the game featured that include Eminem, Jay-Z, DJ Shadow, Z-Trip, DJ AM, Cut Chemist, J.Period, Grandmaster Flash, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and Daft Punk. The game is actually dedicated to DJ AM who passed away earlier this year.

Eminem and Jay-Z both worked as consultants for the game. In return the gaming companies dedicated an edition for the two rappers called the Renegade Edition. Former Chairman of the FCC Michael Powell (son of General Colin Powell) and investment banker William Hambrecht plans to join the AOL board of directors once the company spins off independently. Time Warner Inc. (NYSE:TWX) currently owns AOL as part of a $164 billion merger that took place in 2000.

The nine directors that will be part of AOL after the spin off also includes CEO Tim Armstrong. Michael Powell currently works for Providence Equity Partners LLC. Providence Equity is currently one of the major investors in Hulu too.

Hambrecht founded WR Hambrect + Co., an investment banking company that works with many Internet companies. Hambrecht has been working at the investment bank since about 1998.

Frederic Reynolds (retired CFO of CBS), Richard Dalzell (former Amazon.com exec), Karen Dykstra (Plainfield Asset Management partner), Patricia Mitchell (President/CEO of the Paley Center for Media), James Stengel (management consultant), and James Wiatt (former CEO of William Morris Agency) will also be joining AOL.

John Carmack is the man behind Commander Keen, Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, and Quake. He as the lead programmer behind the games and is the co-founder of id Software. Carmack has confirmed that Doom Classic has been submitted to Apple for approval in an interview with TouchArcade.

Doom Classic will be running on the OpenGL rendered graphics engine. The sound engine will have better quality and a crafted control system. It’d be cool if the modded versions of Wolfenstein 3D make it on the App Store too such as the Barney and Beavis/Butt-head version.
