Samsung has been selling their S5230 mobile phone like hot cakes. The phone recently beat 10 million in unit sales. This is the fastest selling Samsung mobile device thus far. Samsung moved 10 million units within 6 months which is four months faster than the Samsung E250 to sell 10 million units. The Star S5230 has a 3″ WQVGA touchscreen, TouchWiz user interface, Bluetooth 2.1, microSD, 3.2 megapixel camera, and DNSe.
Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) may increase their early termination fee to $350. As you know Verizon recently started selling the Droid, a high-end Android powered Motorola phone. This may be the reason why Verizon is jacking up the prices. The rumor of the increased early termination fee was started by a leaked document on BGR. The early termination fee will decrease $10 per month. Once you’re in Verizon, you’re not leaving without burning a hole in your wallet.
In August 2008 Google filed a report with the SEC that their $900 million investment in MySpace “may be impaired.” MySpace made the Google search engine the default for the search engine. Last week, MySpace executives Rupert Murdoch, Chase Carey, and Dave Devoe reported that MySpace fell short of traffic targets.
This means that MySpace will not be paid the full amount by Google. It is likely that MySpace will lose $100 million of the deal, making it an $800 million deal. The loss might be even greater than $100 million. It could even be $300 million according to one of the executives.
MySpace isn’t the only deal to go slightly sour by Google in recent times. Google sold back 5% of their ownership in AOL back to Time Warner. Google bought the 5% of equity for $1 billion and sold it back for $283 million.
Aaron Siebers did not want to go into work at Blockbuster the other day. So what does he do? He stabs himself and tells co-workers that some skinheads tried to rob the store. Siebers should have known that he was under surveillance. There was no actual robbery, only a terrible plot hatching. Siebers ended up confessing and was rushed to a hospital nearby. Who would have though that working at Blockbuster would cause someone to go nearly Seppuku on themselves?
Recently Google CEO Eric Schmidt went on Fox Business News to do an interview about why the search engine company is going on a hiring spree again. Interviewer Neil Cavuto and Schmidt had a general converation about mobile devices and the economy too. Cavuto pointed out that Google is “taking over the world” and some people are starting to fear the company. Cavuto pointed out that this same thing happened to Microsoft. “Hopefully we won’t repeat the mistakes that Microsoft made 10 years ago that ultimately led to all these things that happened to them,” said Schmidt in the interview.
As you may remember, two months ago eBay was planning to spin Skype into an independent company. The buyers who would take control of Skype from eBay included Marc Andreessen, Ben Horowitz, the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, Index Ventures, and Silver Lake. However the founders of Skype interrupted the sale by claiming intellectual property infringement on the VoIP technology. The original founders of Skype started a company called Joltid. And Joltid said that they were suing eBay.
The lawsuit has now been settled. eBay will be selling a majority ownership of Skype to the aforementioned investors for $2 billion. Joltid will be licensing the technology to the new Skype buyers. Skype founders Niklas Zennstrom and Janus Friis will get 14% ownership in Skype as a result. Both Friis and Zennstrom will also make a “significant’ investment in Skype too. eBay will retain 30% in Skype and the rest of the investor group will get 56%.
Friis and Zennstrom also filed a lawsuit back in September against former Joost CEO Mike Volpi. Friis and Zennstrom founded Joost several years ago and sued Volpi because of breach of fiduciary duty. Volpi is currently a partner with Index Ventures which is one of the companies buying Skype. As a result, Index Ventures is no longer one of the buyers in Skype. The acquisition is expected to close by the end of this year.
Wow. This is hands down one of the best game trailers I’ve seen. I just had to share it. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be released on November 10.
When Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift during the MTV VMAs, it became a viral hit on the Internet. Now that Taylor Swift is hosting SNL, the slapstick comedy show wants to capitalize on the viral buzz. Kanye was called a jackass by President Barack Obama and was made fun of in countless parodies. “Imma let you finish but Beyonce has the greatest video of all time.” Above is a preview video of what can be expected.
