Matt White will be going to prison for many years because he “accidentally” downloaded child pornography on his computer. He was searching for porn on file sharing desktop software Lime Wire and he found out that some of the images he downloaded were of children. He said he deleted them right away.
“It didn’t appeal to me,” stated White. “I was looking for women my age, so I just wanted to download ‘College Girls Gone Wild’ and accidentally downloaded underage pornography.” One year after downloading the images, the FBI showed up and searched the family computer. Matt is pleading guilty based on the advice of his public defender hoping that they will reduce the sentence to three and a half years. White also has to serve 10 years of probation and is labeled as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
The FBI did not comment on this case, but said that if you accidentally stumble upon child pornography the best thing to do is notify the authorities right away. Your computer may get confiscated, but it is better than what could happen otherwise. Many people on forums have complained that Lime Wire ended up sending child pornography to their computers.
