Now that Vevo has been fully constructed, I have decided to give a quick in depth review of what I think of the service.

Launch:
It seems like the service had a very rough public launching because I have not been able to watch one music video yet. Every one the music videos seem to freeze up at the 78% mark. I tried it on Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.

Last night when Vevo was supposed to officially launch, there was nothing on the homepage except for the navigation, broke videos, and the search box.

In terms of launching to the public, I give Vevo 1 star out of 5.

Hulu took their launch very seriously. When they launched, the homepage was covered with great featured content and all the videos were working.

Navigation/User Interface:
Picture 5
However I really like how the company set up the navigation, search, and video areas. The navigation is broken down by Videos, Artists, Genres, Channels, and Playlists.

Videos can be sorted by Most Viewed Today/Week/Month/All-Time. The videos can also be sorted by Genre and Time Range. The Genre section shows the most popular videos under Alternative, Blues, Children’s Music, Christian & Gospel, Classical, Comedy/Humor, Country, Easy Listening, Electronic/Dance, Holiday, Jazz, Latino, Other, Pop, R&B/Soul, Rap/Hip-Hop, Reggae, Rock, Soundtrack, Spoken Word, and World. I like the diversity of music video genres.

Channels are hand-picked categories by Vevo staff. Playlists allow the website visitor to play a list of videos consecutively.

Navigation and user interface gets 5 stars out of 5.

Home Page:
Despite the lack of content on the launch night, the Vevo homepage has a Most Popular Today feature. Below that is featured content that scrolls across from various artists. Underneath the featured content is a list of the Top Videos, Top Playlists, and Popular Artists.

There is also a lot of white space surrounding the user interface of the homepage indicating that there is a potential advertising scheme that involves the homepage. Many marketing companies will place a background in that white space for a day and pay top dollar for it.

I give the home page a 4 out of 5 stars. I docked them one point is because it looks very generic. It almost looks like the website based the whole design on Hulu.com.

Overall:
Overall I give Vevo 4 out of 5 stars because I foresee myself using the service very often. On the launch night and today I was very excited to use the service, but it seems very unstable right now. Had this issue been avoided, I would have given Vevo a much more glowing review.

Skyfire is still easily my favorite web browser for Windows Mobile and Symbian. The Skyfire browser is still the only one that supports Adobe Flash 10 and Microsoft Silverlight along with other PC media formats. Today Skyfire 1.5 has been released to provide better support for touchscreen phones. Skyfire 1.5 is more aesthetically pleasing than previous versions as well. Some of the new Skyfire features include:

1. VGA Screen Support – Supports VGA (640×480 resolution) and WVGA (800×480 resolution).
2. Smooth Scrolling – The screen will scroll a little bit longer based on finger gestures instead of stopping after you finger leaves the screen.
3. Full Screen Mode – There is a way to hide the navigation icons giving the user the full screen experience.
4. Touch-Friendly – A lot of the icons and have been made bigger so that you don’t need a stylus for the touch experience.
5. Auto-move text entry – Tapping on a text field will re-orient the screen to increase visibility.
6. Support for Flash 10 and Silverlight – Latest versions of Flash and Silverlight are supported
7. Improved speed – Speed and stability have increased.

The aforementioned features are only supported for Windows Mobile Skyfire users only. Symbian will get Skyfire 1.5 very soon.

The UStream iPhone application has hit the iTunes App Store and I’m shocked that it has live streaming. Before it was impossible to have live streaming on your iPhone unless the phone was jailbroken. Now the UStream Live Broadcaster is live and it doesn’t have to be on just WiFi, 3G is supported.

When the iPhone 3G S was released, one of the features Apple touted was the video recording capabilities. These videos could only be uploaded to UStream up until now. This is the first time I have heard of an approved iPhone application that supports video to be streamed on the web as it is being recorded.

The application has the ability to report where and when you are recording a video. This includes sending out tweets and Facebook messages. Geo-location is supported so that you can report where you are recording from. Qik has had a live-streaming application for a while, but it was not available on the App Store. Gowalla is a location based social networking website that has raised $8.4 million in funding. Greylock Partners was the lead investor and the company plans to use the funding to strengthen their development capabilities. Thus far Gowalla has raised over $10 million since they started in 2007.

At the Le Web conference in Paris, Facebook Development Network Director Ethan Beard hit the stage to talk about Facebook Connect. “We aspire to be a technology that people use to connect to things they care about no matter where they are,” stated Beard. Currently over 80,000 websites and devices have integrated Facebook connect since the feature launched in December 2008. Between those 80,000 websites and devices, about 60 million people are reached per month through Facebook Connect.

According to comScore, about half of global top 100 websites and about two-thirds of the U.S. Top 100 websites have integrated Facebook Connect. The Huffington Post even saw a 500% increase in Facebook referrals after integrating the Facebook Connect feature.

In terms of applications, there are about 500,000 applications built on Facebook. Beard said that he was surprised by the sudden growth of social gaming by big companies such as Zynga, Playdom, and Playfish. Over 70% of Facebook users are from outside the U.S. according to Beard.

Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) is rumored to be in talks with buying out NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA). NVIDIA has a market cap of about $8.7 billion and Intel has a market cap of about $109 billion. The only part being worked out right now is the price. nVIDIA is more than likely trying to squeeze more than just a market cap equivalent out of Intel.

In the past week, Intel cancelled their Larrabee GPU project. Larrabee was supposed to be a competitor to nVIDIA and ATi. ATi is a part of AMD Corporation, Intel’s biggest competitor. Intel wants to integrate nVIDIA’s processing units into all of their PC and mobile chips. nVIDIA’s Tegra AXP chips have become very popular in mobile and media devices.

Things between Intel and nVIDIA got really heated when the GPU company announced last month that they were suspending the development of chipsets for new Intel processors. nVIDIA is also working on a System-on-Chip processor optimized for portable Internet devices and is challenging AMD/ATi’s Fusion CPU/GPU hybrid by creating something similar.
