GM Working On OnStar App For Smartphones

General Motors subsidiary OnStar is developing mobile applications for their vehicles. Soon Chevy Volt owners will be able to control their car using a mobile application on the Apple iPhone, Verizon Droid, and BlackBerry Storm. The mobile application will inform vehicle owners whether the car is charging on 120V or 240V and will have the ability to start the car remotely.

The mobile application will also report gasoline and electric ranges and will display the miles per gallon that the car is averaging. There is also a built in odometer and trip mileage monitoring. The application will be able to lock, unlock, turn on the lights, and horn.

A demo application is available on iTunes as of right now and the actual application will be available after the Volt hits production in late 2010.
