BBC’s Top Gear Is Having A Week Long DVD Giveaway [UPDATED]

Top Gear is a popular TV show about motor vehicles.  The show started in 1977 as a motor magazine show, but it has evolved into a program with humor and visual style.  The show will begin its 13th season on BBC AMERICA on January 25th at 8PM Central Time.  If you do not have access to BBC AMERICA, each episode of the season will be available on iTunes for download on Tuesdays, the day after the broadcast.

Google Street View is a feature within Google Maps and allows visitors to view maps at 360° horizontal and 290° vertical panoramic views. The service was launched on May 25, 2007 and is increasingly expanding to other cities. Sparkfun Free Day was largely a success as the Twitter hashtag #sparkfun became a “trending topic.” Sparkfun Free Day is a promotion setup by Sparkfun.com that gives away about $100,000 in free electronics.

The popularity of the hashtag caused a server outage and led the service to go offline. As a result, many frustrated contest participants vented on Twitter. I’ve embedded a widget below that shows people venting and giving their opinion about #sparkfun.


Dell Announces Alienware M11x At CES

Dell Inc. (NASDAQ:DELL) has announced the Alienware M11x laptop at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). The laptop is an 11.6 inch and has an Nvidia GT335M GPU video card. The laptop will be available this spring for about $1,000.

The battery life of the M11x is six hours and the video card has switchable graphics. The laptop also has DisplayPort, HDMI, and VGA ports. The processor is an Intel Core 2 ULV. The base model will start at about $799.

GM Working On OnStar App For Smartphones

General Motors subsidiary OnStar is developing mobile applications for their vehicles. Soon Chevy Volt owners will be able to control their car using a mobile application on the Apple iPhone, Verizon Droid, and BlackBerry Storm. The mobile application will inform vehicle owners whether the car is charging on 120V or 240V and will have the ability to start the car remotely.

The mobile application will also report gasoline and electric ranges and will display the miles per gallon that the car is averaging. There is also a built in odometer and trip mileage monitoring. The application will be able to lock, unlock, turn on the lights, and horn.

A demo application is available on iTunes as of right now and the actual application will be available after the Volt hits production in late 2010.

This makes it possible for Kindle owners to download books when they are traveling outside of the United States. However consumers will be subjected to an international download charge. But it may be worth it if you are overseas for an extended period of time.
