The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has granted Google Energy the right to behave like a utility company. This means that Google Energy has the power to sell energy and services at market rates. Why is Google interested in being a utility? The company wants to be more green and become carbon neutral. Google will now have the ability to build as many solar panels and install as many fuel cells as they want to. And then the company can sell off the extra energy that they have created. [Wired]
