Yahoo! Shutting Down Publisher Network, Recommends Chitika

In the next 30 days, Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) will be shutting down Publisher Network.  Yahoo! is recommending people to switch to Chitika as a result of the shut down.  It is strange why Yahoo! is asking people to switch to Chitika instead of Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) adCenter.  Microsoft and Yahoo! are advertising partners.  The Yahoo! Publisher Network (YPN) launched in August 2005.  YPN provided a limited number of publishers with cost-per-click advertising tools.  Below is the full e-mail from Yahoo!

Kleiner Perkins Ups Apple Development Fund (iFund) To $200 Million


Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers partner John Doerr hosted an event today at the Sandhill Hotel in Menlo Park, California to announce their involvement with the Apple iPad.  Kleiner Perkins announced that the venture capital’s iFund will go from $100 million to $200 million.

Kleiner Perkins first introduced the iFund in March 2008 in order to encourage start-ups to make iPhone apps. Some of the companies that received funding from the iFund include Booyah, Shazam, Pinger, and ngmoco.
The companies that have funding in the iFund have seem about a total of 100 million downloads according to Doerr.  Those companies themselves are expected to make about $100 million in revenues this year. [TechCrunch]

Microsoft Launching 64GB Zune HD On April 12th For $350


Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has announced that they are releasing a 64GB version of Zune HD on April 12th. Zune fans can buy the device through the Zune online store on the launch date. Retail partners will receive the device later on. The MSRP of the device is $349.99. As a result of the new device’s introduction, the 16GB and 32GB Zune HD will see a $20 price cut on the MSRP to $200 and $270, respectively. The full press release is below [Engadget]:

InsideView Raises $11.5 Million In Second Round


InsideView is a San Francisco, California based company that designs software called SalesView. SalesView aggregates news about companies and executives so that salespeople can identify whether they would be good for leads. InsideView uses social media tools to plug in news about companies into Salesforce.com and SugarCRM software.

InsideView raised $11.5 million in a second round of funding by Emergence Capital Partners, Rembrandt Venture Partners and Greenhouse Capital Partners. InsideView is used by about 26,000 sales people and about 2,000 companies including Adobe. InsideView started in 2005. [VentureBeat]

Microsoft Hohm To Help Manage Ford Electric Vehicles


Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) announced today that they are creating a web application that helps manage the recharging of electric vehicles.

“Ford and Microsoft both share a strong commitment to contributing to a better world. Today, we begin the next major step in our working together and leading the way for energy efficiency and environmental sustainability,” stated Ford CEO Alan Mulally. “For Ford, this is a needed step in the development of the infrastructure that will make electric vehicles viable.”

Microsoft’s Hohm software will power the energy management application into Ford’s electric cars, including the Focus Electric coming out next year.
Hohm will help Ford electric vehicle owners “determine when and how to most efficiently and affordably recharge battery electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles.” [Detroit Free Press]

IBM Giving Incentives To Startups As Part Of Smarter Planet Strategy


I.B.M. is giving incentives to start-ups as part of their Smarter Planet strategy. I.B.M. announced that they will be giving free access to their software for three years for companies that have been in business for less than 3 years and comply with I.B.M.’s Smarter Planet. The start-ups could focus on improving the efficiency of energy use, water management, transportation and health care according to The New York Times. The companies must be private too. eBay To Sell $1.5 Billion Of Goods On Mobile Devices, Rename Kijiji To eBay Classifieds


eBay Inc. (NASDAQ:EBAY) has launched two new iPhone applications to make the service simple for buyers and sellers to participate on-the-go.  eBay said that they expect to sell about $1.5 billion worth of goods on mobile devices in 2010.  eBay is available in about 190 countries across eight languages.

The app has been downloaded about 8 million times and one item is purchased on eBay mobile every 2 seconds.  eBay also will have an iPad app ready as soon as the device launches. Aside from eBay’s mobile app, the company has also launched another app to complement eBayClassifieds.com.  eBay is renaming their classifieds website from Kijiji to eBay Classifieds.  It is Kijiji that caused eBay and craigslist to get into a heated legal battle. Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty Holding Town Halls On Facebook

Tim Pawlenty, the governor of Minnesota will be using Facebook to hold town hall meetings.  On Wednesday, March 31 at 7:15PM EST – Pawlenty will use his Facebook Fan Page to gather feedback and make a major announcement.  Pawlenty currently has about 33,000+ Facebook fans. [Mashable]

Nissan Leaf Electric Car To Cost $25K After Tax Credits


Nissan announced today that the Leaf electric car will cost about $32,780.  After a federal tax credit of $7,500, the car will cost about $25,280.  The Nissan Leaf competitor Chevy Volt will cost about $32,500 after the federal tax credit.

The Leaf will be going on sale this December, which is about a month after the Volt is released.  Infiniti will also be making a luxury version of the Leaf.

“We’ve been working in lithium ion batteries for 17 years,” stated Nissan director of product planning Mark Perry. “So all that advanced research and engineering work we’ve [already] paid for.” The Nissan LEAF will have an iPhone application available for checking temperature and battery levels.
