Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) has introduced Gesture Search for the Android. This means you can draw out the letters on your phone and find contacts based on that. According to an independent study by GetJar, the mobile application market should hit $17.5 billion in three years. “It is easy to see how mobile apps will eclipse the traditional desktop Internet,” stated GetJar chief executive Ilja Laurs in an interview with the AFP. “It makes perfect sense that mobile devices will kill the desktop.”
Apple hosts about 150,000 applications and GetJar has about 65,000 mini applications across 310,000 developers. About 842 million downloads of applications have been recorded on m.GetJar.com. [AFP]

Samsung operates two separate trademark systems for software and hardware. Samsung recently acquired the trademark for Android hardware. What this means is that other manufacturing companies will be prohibited from selling hardware with Android software running on it without permission.
