Motorola i1 Is The First Android Push-To-Talk Smartphone


The Motorola i1 has been announced to arrive this summer. This device will be the first Android push-to-talk smartphone. Other specs include 3.1″ HVGA display, 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus, dual-LED flash, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, and a 2.5mm headphone jack. For typing there is a Swype virtual keyboard. [BGR]

GM Daewoo Auto Recalling Nearly 59,000 Cars In S. Korea


GM Daewoo Auto & Technology Co., the third largest automaker in South Korea is recalling 58,696 vehicles. About 45,957 Winstorm and Winstorm Maxx SUVs are being recalled in South Korea due to a risk that steering wheels may become separated. About 135 Damas vehicles are being recalled because they failed to meet safety standards.

Hyundai Motor Company in South Korea recalled 47,000 vehicles last month due to possible problems with door latches. GM Daewoo was created in 2002 after GM bought Daewoo Motor Co. [Detroit News]

Former Citigroup Exec Steven Freiberg Becomes CEO Of E*TRADE


E*TRADE Financial Corporation (NASDAQ: ETFC) has hired former Citigroup executive Steven Freiberg as the new CEO. Freiberg worked at Citigroup for about 30 years. He was most recently the Co-Chairman and Co-CEO of Citigroup’s Global Consumer Group. Below is the full press release:

Chrysler To Launch Electric Fiat 500 In 2012


Chrysler announced that they will be launching the electric Fiat 500 automobile in 2012. “The Fiat 500EV powertrain is comprised of three main systems; high power electric powertrain module, advance lithium-ion battery and an E.V. control unit to manage power flows,” stated Chrysler in a press release. The car will be developed at their headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Chrysler also received a $48 million Energy Department grant to build 140 Dodge Ram plug-in hybrids during a 3-year pilot. March 21, 2010: Health Care Reform Bill Passes House [16 Homepages Compared]

In the evening of March 21, 2010 – history was made.  The health care bill was passed by the House of Representatives with a vote of 219-212.  All of the 178 Republicans voted against it along with 34 Democrats.  The bill passed the Senate this past December.  The next step is that the bill will be passed to Obama to sign into law.  Below are homepage screenshots of 16 major political websites as of right now (clicking the image enlarges them). Beware Of Twitter Phish Attack: “You’re On Here?”

There is a new Twitter phish attack that is spreading.  This is just a heads up to be careful if you receive a direct message that says “You’re on here?”  There’s a link that follows the message.  There’s a chance that your username and password has been compromised if you click the link.  Immediately change your password if you clicked the link. Skype Founders’ VC Company Atomico Raises $165 Million


Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis, the founders of Skype started a company called Atomico Ventures in 2006. The VC firm was started to invest in early-stage European technology companies. Atomico has just announced that they have raised $165 million in funding.

“The type of companies we are looking at are consumer-facing and also small business… that do not need to build up sales forces around the world to scale and grow,” stated Zennström in an interview with the Financial Times. “These are the kinds of companies like Skype, Google and Facebook who, if the business model is really working, they can get large revenues without having to go through too many financing rounds.” [Financial Times]

Ben Folds Plays Homage To Chatroulette Improv’s Merton [VIDEO]

Ben Folds, the former frontman of the band Ben Folds Five played a tribute to Merton of Chatroulette Improv fame.  Folds was playing in front of 2,000 people in Charlotte, North Carolina.  Ben Folds played a song about every random person he saw on Chatroulette.  I especially liked 3:38 when Ben Folds played a song for a guy sitting on the toilet. Steve Jobs Sends E-mail Revealing Picasa Won’t Be Supported On iTunes


Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) CEO Steve Jobs wrote an e-mail to a consumer saying that Picasa will not be available on the iPad.  A UK reader of 9to5Mac.com wrote the following e-mail to Steve Jobs:

“The iPad photo app looks incredible.  Are there any plans to support Picasa’s faces and albums in iTunes, so I can take full advantage of the Photos application, since Photo Album is long discontinued.  If not, please can you look into supporting the Picasa library format?”

Jobs wrote back saying: “No, but iPhone on the Mac has much better Faces and Places features.” [9to5Mac]
