General Motors announced recently that they will be doubling the size of their electric battery testing lab. GM will be plugging $8 million into the lab which will give them 63,000 square feet to work with. Previously the facility was planned to be around 30,000 sq. ft.

About 1,000 engineers are current working in the lab and it is expected that there will be additional hires. The battery testing lab is based in a suburb of Detroit, Michigan.

“GM is building on its commitment to lead the development of electric vehicle technology – from battery cell design to the charging infrastructure – and today’s investment furthers our work in this area,” stated GM executive director of global electrical systems, Micky Bly. [Inhabitat]
