Apple Working On A Flash Alternative Called Gianduia

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is developing an Adobe Flash and Microsoft Silverlight competitor called Gianduia. Apple is creating the standards based framework to power Rich Internet Apps and to create production quality online apps for retail users according to Apple Insider.

Apple announced Gianduia last summer at WOWODC (World of WebObjects Developer Conference). Gianduia is named after an Italian hazelnut chocolate. The metaphor is that Gianduia is “essentially is browser-side Cocoa (including CoreData) + WebObjects, written in JavaScript by non-js-haters,” stated indie Mac developer Jonathan “Wolf” Rentzsch.

Apple Retail uses Gianduia to power their web app client One-to-One. They also use it for the iPhone reservation system and the Concierge program for the Genius Bar.

Blown away by gianduia. Cappuccino, SproutCore and JavascriptMVC have serious competition. Serious.less than a minute ago via Tweetie
