Apple Spokesperson Responds To NPD Group’s Smartphone Survey

A couple of days ago, market research NPD Group released a survey that more people own devices powered by Android that collectively outsell the iPhone. However these assumptions were made on a sample size of 150,000 people that filled out a survey in the U.S. But the media went nuts with the story anyway (over 400-500 articles were published based on this survey).

In a rare situation, Apple decided to directly respond to the survey: “This is a very limited report on 150,000 U.S. consumers responding to an online survey and does not account for the more than 85 million iPhone and iPod touch customers worldwide,” stated Apple spokesperson Natalie Harrison. However Harrison’s response was not exactly accurate. She counted the iPod Touch numbers as part of her response, but those numbers should be irrelevant to smartphone comparisons. [Gizmodo]
