Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) has launched APIs for Google Latitude. Users will specifically need to allow Google Latitude access to an application before using the service. Some of the ideas that Google threw out there for applications that can be built on top of Google Latitude APIs include:

- Thermostats that turn on and off automatically when driving away from home.
- App that sends alerts if you are near a place with traffic jams.
- Credit card fraud notifications
- Photo albums that appear if you are near a place where your family has traveled to.
