Skype has updated their iPhone and iPod Touch (2nd gen+) application to include 3G calling.  The original version had VoIP calling through WiFi.  Skype-to-Skype calls on the 3G network will be free, but of course you will still need to have a data plan.  However the free 3G Skype calling is expected to be around until the end of this year and then they may consider a monthly fee later on.  [Skype Blog]
